2 pups. 1 lesson you need this week

A quick note before we talk pups... You’re getting this email as part of the Missy Frisch Coaching list. If you’d rather only hear about Unofficial Connection Hub events, like the April 16th happy hour, you can update your preferences using the link at the bottom of this email.

Hey Reader,

Seeing Tot at the vet recently got me thinking about one of my favorite concepts:

What you focus on grows.

The vet might actually be his favorite place.

The second we walk in, his whole body is wagging. While we wait, he tracks every shadow under the door, so excited to see who’s coming to say hello next.

His thoughts, best I can tell: Treats! Friends! Squirt cheese! Peanut butter!

Our old pup Booyeah did not feel the same.
Same place. Same circumstance.

Her thoughts: Danger! Needles! Gross meds! Your food is a trick!

Same visit. Same prodding and attention.
Two completely different experiences, based on what each of them focused on.

The same is true for you and me.
We can walk into the same Monday morning, the same hard conversation, the same situation, and have entirely different experiences depending on where our minds go.

Both pups were right.
The food is a trick. And it’s treats.
There are needles. And lots of pets.

Booyeah didn’t have the ability to change her experience by changing her focus.

But you do.

And you don’t have to lie to yourself about what’s hard or uncomfortable.

You’re simply choosing which part of the experience you give more of your attention to.

This week, when something you're not looking forward to is ahead of you, pause for just a second.

Ask yourself: what part of this could I actually look forward to? It doesn't have to be big. Tot would tell you even the squirt cheese counts.

XO,

Missy

Totten tuning into music

Totten in his radio days Hey Reader, Do you remember the first thought that popped into your mind when you woke up this morning? Was it: “Ugh, I need 3 more hours of sleep.” “Mondays are the worst.” “Today’s going to be a good day.” Our brains start offering us thoughts before our feet even hit the floor. And once you start paying attention, you’ll notice those thoughts usually carry a certain vibe. I like to think of them as music stations. There’s a specific energy behind them that’s worth...

Hey Reader, What are you listening to these days? Podcasts, music, the news, books, meditations? Single speed or sped up? And more importantly… how’s all of that noise making you feel? Energized? Frustrated? Overwhelmed? Calm? Most of us hit play without pausing to think: Will listening to this help fuel me forward or be an energetic drag as I start my week? As you kick off your week - consider pausing before you hit play on your usual routine. And choose a soundtrack that aligns with how you...

Hey Reader, A couple weeks ago, I wrote about my struggle with being a slightly messy human my whole life, and I shared the full story here: I found a gap in my own coaching. Many of you wrote back saying you want to solve this too. Today, I’ll give you a quick inside look at the mindset that has driven me over the past few weeks and has led my home to stay tidier than it’s ever been. You can do this too! Yes, I’ve been implementing strategies you’ve probably heard of before, like the...
