Hey Reader, I learned a new word last week, courtesy of the brilliant Brene Brown. You're going to want to know it too! Confabulation. Confabulation: A lie, honestly told. It's fascinating. I've been thinking and talking about this concept for years, focused on the lies we tell ourselves that we believe without question. I've never had a word for it until this week. And now that I can name it, I see how often we confabulate. It's even more than I suspected! Here are two examples from my life...
Hey Reader, An idea to try on this week... Trying to think positive is getting in your way of thinking and acting powerfully. So often my clients tell me what's going on with them and then say some version of, "I know... I should think positive." And I typically disagree. Usually when someone says that, they are trying to put a positive spin on something they don't feel good about. I bet you can relate it. It's fighting reality rather than trying to get powerful within it. There is no shame...
Hey Reader, Thursday night, near the end of a long, full week, I cut into an avocado only to discover it wasn’t ripe. If you're an avocado lover - you get it. It's the worst. I had a moment. Brief, but dramatic. You know the feeling? A tiny thing goes wrong and you have an outsized reaction. So many of us judge ourselves in that moment. Sure, I could’ve beaten myself up for the unnecessary, dramatic - and let’s be honest therapeutic - hurling of each half of the avocado into the woods. 🤷🏻♀️...
